The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC (SOC) Limited, is a Schedule 2 (Major Public Entity) entity in terms of the Public Finance Management Act NO. 1 of 1999, as amended. It was established through an Act of Parliament in 1936, which replaced the previous state-controlled African Broadcasting Corporation. This was followed by the enactment of the Broadcasting Act NO. 4 of 1999 in which section 7 allowed for the establishment of the SABC.

Internship Opportunity: We are thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a Sound Engineering Graduate to join our Technology RRTO team. Our internships at SABC are designed to provide students with hands-on experience, working alongside our internal clients and teams to address key business challenges and identify areas of growth for the company.

Purpose of the Programme: The purpose of this 12-month graduate programme is to provide operational support to Broadcast Clients (internal and external) in setting up, preparing, recording, and playing out broadcast material across all platforms with expected standards and available facilities/equipment. The successful intern will be placed in different provinces as indicated above.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute operational production requirements.
  • Assist in operating facility equipment.
  • Ensure mic placements as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Assist in recording drama productions with FX, music, and different audio streams.
  • Record distributions in line with archiving best practice.
  • Setup mix-minus.
  • Operate digital playout systems.
  • Perform basic Audio/Visual manipulation of final mix, if necessary.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of production material within scope and specifications.
  • Report and escalate risk findings.

Inherent/Minimum Requirements:

  • Sound Engineering Certificate (1 year & above) or Film/Video Technology or Relevant Qualification.
  • Advantage: Sound Engineering Diploma (3 years) (NQF Level 6).
  • Driver’s License will be advantageous.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Physical attributes: Excellent hearing and eyesight (no color blindness). Physically able.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team and lead if required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
